Escapes

It's pretty common for me to hear that people take vacations to far flung exotic areas, but when it comes to weekend getaways in their own backyard, they're pretty clueless. We'll you're in luck because there are tons of fun places to visit, perfect for day trips and weekends away.

Want wine in Washington?
Check out the  Willows Lodge, Woodinville, Washington. A destination hotel in Woodinville, where very little wineries actually are, but boy are there tasting rooms. It's located next door to the Red Hook Brewery where you can take a $1 beer tasting brewery tour, it's walking distance to all the wineries, and across the street from Chateau Ste. Michelle. Can you say Summer Concert Series? Yes please.

Want to ski? Or wear cute snow clothes and pretend?
There's no shortage of awesome ski resort towns in these parts. Head to Bend, Oregon and stay at Inn at the Seventh Mountain.  There's outdoor pools to swim in (even in winter!), lots of golf, an ice skating rink, horseback riding, some restaurants, and it's pet friendly! And then of course there's Mt. Bachelor, Bend and Sisters. If you've got a few days, look no further than Sandpoint, Idaho. It's like Lake Tahoe on steroids. Ski the winter at Schweitzer and putz around the town with the locals, or spend the summer on a boat on Pend Oreille (pronounced Pond O-ray).
